Eurobot (UK) Final 2014

By Stephen Prior |

Engineering students from the University of Southampton have taken the top three places in the national final of a robotics competition.

Award Ceremony

Teams of students and young people taking part in the UK finals of the ‘Eurobot’ competition were tasked with designing, building and programming robots to compete against others. Each team had to programme their robots to score as many points as possible by moving around the table picking and placing items as well as shooting at targets within the 90 second match duration, whilst going head to head with another team’s robot.

The three Southampton teams, each consisting of five mechanical and aeronautic engineering students, will now go onto represent the UK in the world finals of Eurobot, to be held in Dresden, Germany from 6 to 9 June 2014, where they will be pitted against the best teams from across the globe.

Dr Stephen Prior, Reader in Unmanned Air Vehicles and student supervisor, said:

“All 13 Southampton teams worked hard over the last few months and these three teams are the best of the best. The recipe for success is always keeping it simple. We have high expectations of doing well on the international stage.”
