Topic 4: The friendships we form.

This is my good friend Twitter. I really like my good friend Twitter. I also really like my other friends of the same social circle, Facebook and Instagram. But every friend, no matter how good, has a flaw. After commenting on Yi Ming’s and Evan’s post, I realised that good friends have flaws. But they are merely mediums or channels of communication. Are you sure you want to tweet that? What I have learnt from Topic 4

This topic was interesting as it was intriguing to read about the many different ethical issues faced by social media usage. Vanessa and Yu Ting blogged about privacy issues as well and gave me more insights. Yu Ting’s post made me think twice about skipping the reading of the terms and conditions section, as privacy matters are mostly made in fine print. Continue reading →

My takeaways and learning points from their post is that companies need to practice good judgement as there are many grey areas. Continue reading →

I commented on his post to share my thoughts of the 2 examples he showed, which led to my agreement with Augie Ray’s criticism towards Ford’s use of brand imagery in response to the capture of the Boston bomber. 4.0 A Reflection Summary: Ethical Issues raised by Business or Educational Use of Social Media

This discussion topic was rather eye-opening to me with many different posts from my peers from different perspective. Since I have shared my discussion on Business use, I would like to reflect about Educational use of social media issues. I personally feel that all of the information shared among each other is enriching but I would like to further emphasize on Sylvia’s and Ian’s post where they mentioned about Cyber-Bullying. The question of “Morality”

Social media has become a powerful tool for businesses to deliver a message to its’ consumers. “Amplification” is one of the elements that are being created through social media (Forbes 2014). However, some of the ethical issues that they face may bring detrimental effects on the brand (Insider 2012). I believe that one of the most significant issues would be the exploitation of others’ misfortune. Continue reading →
