Are Europe’s smaller languages at risk in the digital age?

The Guardian has published an article discussing how the internet and its technologies are eroding many languages, in particular in the Baltic countries, and asks what can be done about it. It argues that the predominance of a few larger languages online has led to them becoming default domains for technology, software and business. The 9th annual University of Southampton E-Learning Symposium, at the University’s Avenue Campus on 23rd and 24th January 2014, was a resounding success! There was a real buzz around the Avenue Campus amongst the delegates who attended from all around the country. ICT and Languages Conference: 8-9 February 2014

The fourth ICT and Languages Conference, entitled ‘Putting the pedagogy in the technology’, is taking place on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 February 2014 at the Avenue Campus, University of Southampton. The conference attracts delegates from across the UK, as well as a large online following on Twitter. WorldCALL2013 Conference, 10-13 July

The WorldCALL2013 Conference will be taking place in Glasgow from 10-13 July 2013. WorldCALL aims to enhance computer-assisted language learning (CALL) in the global community by bringing language educators in higher education around the world together. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Sustainability and CALL’. A number of the sessions will involve practical demonstrations of courseware and other technology that will be of interest to teachers in secondary and further education. Continue reading →

The 8th annual e-learning symposium will be taking place at the University of Southampton on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th January. LLAS will be live streaming the four keynote speakers via the LLAS website. Most sessions during the event will also be recorded and will be available on the LLAS website after the event.
