Southampton undergraduates at AAPG Imperial Barrel Award

This year’s AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists) Imperial Barrel Award team (Alice Wenborn, Suzanne Millis, Sam Bunnett, Ben James and Chris Wilkinson) were placed 5th in the European Regional Competition in Prague. In an extremely closely fought competition featuring 26 teams from throughout Europe, they were the highest ranking UG team, beaten only by four Petroleum Geoscience MSc teams. A fantastic achievement widely praised by both industry representatives in attendance and their peers.

Ranking so highly amongst teams of specialist petroleum geoscience students is a credit to both, the students for all their hard work and late nights, and the degree progammes here at Southampton.

AAPG’s Imperial Barrel Award Program (IBA) is an annual prospective basin evaluation competition for geoscience graduate students from universities around the world. University teams compete to win scholarship funds for their geoscience department and the international recognition that comes from competing or winning in the competition. read more about the program here.
