Art workshop with Susannah Pal

Art workshop with Susannah Pal

Day 1 – 15.30 – 16.30 Events space

Join Artist Susannah Pal for a fun and informative seminar and drawing workshop where you will explore the benefits of science and art collaborations.

Susannah is an artist and educator who has collaborated with Professor Ian Williams and environmental scientists at The University of Southampton to create art that helps communicate the problems of Plastic Pollution (2022) and Electrical and Electronic Waste (2020).

You will be given an insight into the project including the challenges and benefits of working collaboratively and cross-discipline. Susannah will talk through her ideas for the finished art work. Afterwards you will be led through a series of drawing activities to encourage you to explore the materiality of a plastic object you own.

What you need to bring:

  • A plastic object which is small and interesting to draw. Perhaps something you treasure or something mundane and throwaway. Ideas: plastic folk, meaningful toy, cable and plug, headphones, crisps or sweets wrapper, plastic bottle.

  • An open mind! No prior drawing experience is necessary.

  • Materials will be provided but if you would like to bring your own, please do so.
